Some 13,000 complaints made to media watchdog Ofcom in Britain, the Police investigating e-mail threats against contestants, British Prime Minister Tony Blair forced to comment on the issue and the Indian Government getting into the act too. All this because of racist comments made on the show Big Brother about the contestant Shilpa Shetty, the famous Bollywood Actress.Shetty was supposedly called a ‘f****** Paki’ by fellow housemate Jack Tweed, a ‘dog’ by the former Miss Great Britain Danielle Lloyd and ‘that Indian’ by Jackie Budden a contestant on the show. The producers, Endemol and the channel, Channel 4 have insisted that Jack had actually called Shilpa a ‘c***’ and not a ‘f****** Paki’ which is just misogynist and abusive for them and not racist. The actual video has been pulled down from Youtube.
Ironically, Shilpa and the other housemates remain unaware of the public fury over the comments at the moment.Is this deep rooted racism or just a publicity stunt for Big Brother ? Watch a video snippet from the show and post your comments.
