Renault Ballet Ad

This is not your average automobile ad. Sure, it has a lot of fancy looking cars from the Renault stable ballet dancing in the desert. And yes, we have also seen cars being driven with breath-taking precision and executing dangerously close maneuvers. But this one is different. Watch the video to know more.

Almost funny. A laughter track would have helped.

Logan's RunSnarkerati has compiled a list of the top 50 dystopian movies of all time. The term ‘Dystopia’ is the antonym of ‘Utopia’.  All the movies in the list have a apocalyptic or bleak vision of the future. Some of the classic movies were the obvious by-products of the tensions during the cold war era. The studios exploited the fears of a global nuclear war and an “evil and ungodly” Soviet Union.

There is another recurring theme in many of the movies. The unwilling and conforming protagonist suddenly has a change of heart (mind ?) and rebels against the all controlling powers that rule his/her dystopian world. Expectedly,  a government-gone-bad plot was a popular choice  for the script writers, but “dirty” apes, aliens and semen-hungry underground-dwelling women were also cast as the antagonists.

The No. 1 film in the rankings will be no surprise to avid sci-fi movie fans.

    DNA Portraits

DNA 11 creates custom abstract art from a DNA sample submitted by you.

Here is how it works. The company will send you a collection kit for the extraction of a sample. You have to return the sample and your DNA is then extracted and processed in a lab. The resulting blueprint is colorized, digitally enhanced and printed on high quality canvas. And for a better price, you can have it mounted on a backlit frame. Each portrait is obviously unique (unless you have a clone) and will make a great conversation piece at home. The company also undertakes custom fingerprint portraits.

The prices start from $390 for a basic portrait and can go up to $1200 for a backlit one.

    Wear Red Tomorrow For Myanmar

    JazJaz reader Kevin says,

The situation in Myanmar (Burma) is deteriorating by the hour. The military is once again trying to crush the popular uprising of the people of Myanmar,Monks In Burma and will in all probability succeed in quelling it. The last uprising was brutally put down by the Junta military at a cost of hundreds of innocent lives. We have the power to change the situation. Let us spread awareness of this issue by wearing a red shirt on the 28th of September, to show our solidarity with the people of Myanmar. Together, the internet community can make a powerful statement for the emancipation of the people of that beautiful country.

Never before have we had the power to change things, until now – thanks to the Internet. Spread the awareness, people.

You can know more about the crisis by reading these blogs:

    • The Democratic Voice Of Burma Blog has been keeping us informed of the latest from the troubled country.
    • Expatjane has a lot of links and information about the present situation.

The Molo Paper Softseat is truly an incredible piece of industrial design. It is made from 50% recycled Kraft paper and other packing material. Though it is made of paper, it can function as a regular couch, stool or a recliner. Its inherent strength is due to the unique honeycomb design.

The seating can be folded into a large ‘book’ and stored on a shelf or in a Molo Couch Collapsible Furniturecloset, and can be fanned out to create a stool, couch, chair or lounger whenever necessary. Each end of the piece has embedded magnetic connectors to attach together and form stools or interlink with other softseating systems.

The paper of the softseating system is not intended to be a short term novelty and thrown away after a few uses. The kraft paper actually gets better with age, softening the edges while still maintaining its structural integrity. Although the surface may dampen, the internal honeycomb design stays firmly intact. The system is fire retardant and complies with California’s safety standards.

Words won’t do it any justice, watch it in action.

The Silent Guardian is the the US Army’s latest non-lethal weapon. It was developed by Raytheon, utilizing the same heating technology behind microwave ovens. Only this machine can emit an invisible, focused beam of radiation which seemingly stimulates human nerve endings and causes excruciating pain. The pain stops as soon as the beam is turned off, and supposedly causes no visible damage on the human body. The machine has a range of nearly half a mile.

The guys behind the Government Dirt blog, have serious concerns (after undergoing a trial) about the havoc it can cause in the wrong hands.
