The Solomon Kane movie is based on one of the characters created by classic pulp writer Robert E. Howard. Howard was one part dark genius, one part tortured soul and is credited with almost single-handedly inventing the ‘Sword and Sorcery’ genre. In his short but creative life, the prolific writer created some unforgettable fictional characters like King Kull, Red Sonja and Conan the Barbarian. These famous characters have spawned many books, comics, TV and movies franchises.

Now, it’s the turn of one more Howard creation, the puritan soldier Solomon Kane, to be brought to the silver screen.

The movie is to be directed by Michael J. Bassett, with British actor James Purefoy portraying the dark hero. The movie makers have released the first teaser poster of the film, which, unfortunately enough, makes Solomon Kane look like the campy Van Helsing.

Funny African Condom Commercial

This ad for Trust Condoms, made me see South Africa in a whole new light. Though the country is being ravaged by an Aids epidemic, the people of the beautiful country have still managed to retain their sense of humor.

The creators of the African ad have cunningly played upon the west’s clichéd and perceived notions about the uber-virility of African men. But there is a message behind all the bawdy humor and music. That condoms can not only protect, but can be fun too.

Jeremy Clarkson reviews the nearly untameable Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, in this segment from Top Gear. The beast has a 6.5 liter, V12 engine generating an astounding 640 bhp, and a top speed of 207 miles mph (333 km/hr) .

Can Clarkson tame the beast ? Watch the video to find out.

If this is what the 2006 Murcielago can do, imagine the devastating power of the super-exclusive 2007 Lamborghini Reventón.

Funny xkcd Comic – Brick Archway

This strip from the always hilarious xkcd webcomic site, made me laugh.

Just loved it.

Deep beneath the rocky ground of the Valchiusella valley in northern Italy, lie the nine Temples of Damanhur, whose incredible beauty and scale stunned the Italian government into calling them the "Eighth Wonder of the World.”

The temples were not built thousands of years ago, but only in the latter part of the last century. The huge underground structures were the extraordinary vision of Oberto Airaudi, a former insurance broker, and as some people claim, the possessor of paranormal powers.

Temples of Damanhur - Hall of Mirrors

He was helped by thousands of like-minded volunteers – the ‘Damanhurians’, who tirelessly toiled for 16 years to convert his grand dreams into reality. It was only in the early 90′s, that the local law officials "gently" persuaded the group to allow them to take a look at the temples. What they saw next, overwhelmed and amazed them. They found miles of intricately decorated tunnels linking huge chambers with giant glass domes, tall columns embellished with real gold, stained glass windows, murals and more.

This is simply brilliant. The USBcell from Thinkgeek is basically a rechargeable (Nimh) AA battery, which as the name implies, can be charged by plugging it into any computer USB port.

Snip from the site:

USBcell Rechargeable BatteriesNow, when your batteries are flatlining, pop the cap, and jam ‘em into your nearest ubiquitous USB port. Whether it’s on your computer, laptop, monitor or powered USB hub, all you need is 250mA of juice from your universal serial bus, and a little patience. In just a few hours, you’ll have 1300mAH of power!

The USBCell is a complete steal at $19.95 for two AA batteries.

24 – Unaired Pilot Episode

Watch the exciting unaired 1994 pilot episode of the Emmy award winning 24 TV series.

The year is 1994. Jack Bauer has to defuse a ticking time bomb, but his stealth mission is under severe jeopardy due to unreliable AOL dial-up connections, beeping pagers and slow dot-matrix printers. Ok, it’s a spoof, but a well made one with a lot of funny tech references. Oh, and by the way, you could easily fit 150 KB into a single floppy. 1994 wasn’t that bad, after all.

This is kinda creepy but oddly fascinating at the same time. The enormous success of the Daft Hands video has given rise to many copycat versions on Youtube.

The fan video was set to the music of the lyrically complex (ha ha) Daft Punk track “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” Watch the Daft Bodies do their strange version of the same.
