A-Frame - Legs

Print Magazine has put together a superb and massive photo compilation of the "A-Frame," a visual framing device made popular in the ’40s by pulp novel publishers to implicitly portray (sexual) power. The device has had a long history of abuse by artists, advertisers and movie poster designers.

There are enough gorgeous, long (female) legs to make the gallery slightly NSFW.

TinEye is an exciting and new image search engine from Idée Inc. The service is currently in private beta, but I managed to garner an invite to use it.

TinEye - Interface

The interface of the site couldn’t be simpler. All you have to do is upload an image or an image URL, and the engine takes care of the rest. It can find images similar to the ones you have uploaded, even if they have been cropped, resized or even photoshopped.

TinEye does this by first creating a digital signature or fingerprint of the uploaded image, and then comparing it to the fingerprint of every other image in its search index.

This rather dated looking commercial for Kenwood car audio players really startled me. They must have a morbid sense of humor in Italy. There is no way that this could have aired elsewhere in the world.

Craig Davidson, a Canadian novelist, attempted to live the life of the main character of his first novel by injecting himself with illegal steroids over a period of 16 weeks.

Craig DavidsonThe results were quite dramatic to say the least.

He not only increased his body weight by 35 lb in less than four months, but also was able to transform his body into a shape, which most men would workout for years in the gym to possess. Unfortunately, for Craig, the steroids had devastating side-effects on his health. He described his harrowing ordeal in an article in the Observer.

Snip from the article:

Then one morning I was showering, I looked down at my shampoo-foamed hands, and saw dozens of red strands between my fingers. Soon they were everywhere: on my pillow, between my teeth, falling into the pages of books while I read. I became hyper-aware of the way wind felt through my hair: colder on the top of my skull, where there was less protection. And not just my head: the hairs on my arms and legs, even my testicles, were falling out. Not a single follicle seemed firmly moored to my skin.

Then, one sleepless night (the steroids also triggered insomnia) my testicles shrunk. Testicular atrophy is the most well-known side-effect of steroid abuse. It’s an inherent irony: here you are trying to turn yourself into an über-man while part of the most obvious manifestation of your manhood dwindles before your eyes.

The latest trailer for the Incredible Hulk movie is here, but it does nothing for the movie. Some of the action scenes featuring the angry green machine look more like in-game cutscenes. I will still watch the movie for the Hulk‘s sake though, even it turns out to be a major turkey at the box office. Continue reading ‘The Incredible Hulk Movie – New Trailer’

Shtrikh Kod (Barcode) is an unique, one-of-a-kind tribute to capitalism located in  St. Petersburg, Russia (of all places.)

The brightly colored mall, designed by architectural studio Vitruvio and Sons, provides some much needed visual-relief to the drab skyline of the residential area it is situated in.

The Fez says,

"This is rather edgy advertising by Philips for its new range of epilators. Titled The Life of James, the ad features Karis, a stunning model with beautiful legs, who just happens to be a transsêxual named James in real life."

"The toughest part about looking like a women is all the hair. Being a man, I can’t take pain. Of course, the Philishave Sanitelle Ice Epilator is there to help out."

Though Karis is technically a man, some of the imagery in the video makes it NSFW.

Oh, and if it leaves you rather confused, don’t blame me for dragging you out of the closet.

Watching Japanese dancer Masako Yasumoto dance in the hypnotic Omadaka style left me quite entranced, but seriously creeped my wife out.

Omodaka has been defined as a mutational fusion of music and video developed through trial and error.

I must admit, there were moments when I almost expected her to step out from the computer screen.
