Want to do something different for Halloween, this time around ? Well, check out this uber-cool Cylon Jack-O-Lantern created by the good folks at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories.

Cylon Jack-O-Lantern

The LEDs, controlled by low-cost integrated circuits, faithfully replicate the distinctive and menacing Cylon scanning eye effect.

While the project does need some skill, it’s not entirely too difficult. You can find the complete DIY instructions and plans at the site.

Pretty funny cartoon from We The Robots.

Fight Club

Like most geeks people, I too loved the subversive brilliance of the Fight Club novel and movie.

There are tons of more great stuff at the site.

These totally sweet action figures from Instinct Toy would be perfect as minions in the Star Wars universe.

The toys are modernized tributes to a series of action figures released previously by the Bounty Hunter company.

Vinyl Action Figures

The extremely well-detailed vinyl figurines are 12” high and are made from vinyl.

Visit Instinct Toy’s blog to see bigger pictures of the toys.

Clement Picon’s surreal music video for Radiohead’s ‘Reckoner’ was one of the 4 award winning entries in the In Rainbows Contest on Aniboom. The videos were selected from over 200 submissions to the contest.

Make sure you watch the other prize winning entries here.

Great commercial for Guinness beer titled “Fridge Magnet” from Ireland.

The advertisement was filmed in Buenos Aires, and directed by the multi-award winning, ad film maker – Fredrik Bond. The anarchic music track accompanying the visuals is “Dedication” by electro/alternative band Red Cell.

The 150 Sueños Ilustrados gallery on Flickr has incredible illustrations  by various artists interpreting the account of dreams in their own words by children in Mexico, Spain and Brazil.

150 Dreams Illustrated

Today I dreamed that I was in a village and a volcano exploded, but the lava didn’t´t burn me and it was made of colors.

The innocent, pictorially rich, colorful imagery used by the children to describe their dreams makes for some delightful reading, and not to mention great art.

The Pet Store was a Disney animated short released in 1933 by United Artists Pictures.

The film is notable for being the third and last animated cartoon to feature  Beppo the Gorilla, an ill-tempered beast who always kidnaps Minnie Mouse, only to be thwarted later by a clumsy, yet brave, Mickey Mouse.

This particular short pays homage to the other famous angry gorilla of the year 1933 - King Kong.

Jimiyo used a combination of pencil-drawn sketches and Photoshop to create his masterpiece.

The tshirt is available for $24 (plus shipping) at this site.

I highly recommend checking out Jimiyo’s insanely good portfolio here.

JazJaz is now on Alltop

JazJaz has been accepted on Alltop in the art category. Alltop is a very interesting RSS aggregation service co-founded by tech-evangelist Guy Kawasaki.

The site is similar to a digital magazine rack, and features stories collected from quality sites on the internet. The categories range from celebrity gossip, fashion and gaming,  to  more serious issues like the environment and science. On Alltop, the focus is more on quality than quantity.

The song “Take on Me” by Norwegian band a-ha, reached the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1985.

The success of the single could be attributed to the facts that the song was extremely radio-friendly, and also that it had an innovative, quintessentially ‘80s music video. The video blended rotoscope animation and live action sequences.

Dustin Mclean (aka Dustball), award-winning animator and musician, has now remixed the music video by adding his own voice and lyrics to it.

I don’t want to give too much away, but I just loved this version more.

You can watch the original after the jump. Continue reading ‘Take On Me – Literal Version of the a-ha Hit’
