Latest Mattel Commercial Uses Aqua’s Barbie Girl Song

Mattel-Barbie-Aqua-Barbie-Girl

My, oh, my! Look have things have changed.

Aqua, the most successful-ever Danish pop group, were a worldwide phenomenon in the late ‘90s, no small thanks to their monster hit single – “Barbie Girl”.

The single’s playfully risqué lyrics and double entendres created a lot of controversy, and  things came to a head, when Mattel, the makers of Barbie® dolls, sued the band for copyright infringement.

Now, in a bizarre turn of events, Mattel is using the same song (minus all the sexual innuendo) as a promotional song for their flagship product.

So, without much further ado, here is ‘The Barbie®’.

This commercial sucks, and 1:06 to 1:09 - that is so inappropriate it's not even worth laughing at. I just hope Aqua are grown up enough not to sue them back. Once again, THIS SUCKS!!!!!!

This is so beyond stupid. Seriously. They sue Aqua for using their trademarks and now they use Aqua's song. Even IF they have permission to use the song, it's still wrong. And how ridiculous is it that they are now more than ever promoting the whole plastic surgery thing. "Life in plastic, it's fantastic". I mean, come on! This commercial should be yanked. Immediately.
  • Nice information dear really amazing news may I know where are you finding the news of arts and designs, I am waiting here please let me know.

    Thanks

I had no idea that Aqua was sued by the creator of the Barbie Dolls. As you said, it's weird now that they use the song for a Barbie video. Mattel should now make a public apology to the music band that made this brand so famous.

Mattel is obviously headed-up by idiots. "Life in plastic, it's fantastic"?? What are we trying to say there? That everyone should go become plastic? Precisely what the old Aqua song was poking fun at?? Out of their minds to no small degree they are. And just watch in the video the motion Ken makes when he first says "Com on Barbie, let's go party"... am I mistaken, or is he suggestively making the humping-motion to the front of his store packaging?
  • Even I did a double take the first time I saw the commercial, Jess. :)

I just saw a commercial for this and immediately I was thinking to myself, "Did I really see what I think I just saw? Mattel using that Aqua song they sued over!?"

And just jumped onto Google to see if this was really serious and I wasn't hallucinating. I am still in shock.
