I’m pleased to feature the works of Amy Guidry, an exciting, award-winning artist from Lafayette, Louisiana. Amy’s painting style can be described as a contemporary and edgy take on surrealism, and her works are strongly influenced by her vegan lifestyle.

On being asked more about her creative process, Amy replied that she likes to work in series, dealing with issues of social and personal interest. While she has been a vegan for over twelve years now, she subtly lets her works do the part of raising awareness about environmental issues and animal welfare, something which she sees as issues which go hand in hand.

Her latest series,  In Our Veins, is an exploration of the close connections shared between all life forms on our planet, and how we are also a part of the timeless cycle of life and death.

"In Our Veins" explores the connections between all life forms and the cycle of life. Through a psychological, and sometimes visceral, approach, this series investigates our relationships to each other and to the natural world, as well as our role in the life cycle. Concepts such as life and death, survival and exploitation, and the interdependence and destruction of living and nonliving organisms are illustrated throughout. Using imagery derived from dreams and free association, “In Our Veins” demonstrates these ideas in a surreal, psychologically-charged narrative.
