Youtube – Mahatma Gandhi Pole Dancing Video

YouTube, the popular video sharing site, could be banned in India due to a supposedly offensive video of Mahatma Gandhi doing a Pole dance and other ungandhi-like antics. The video features a comedy skit by a Hawaii-based Non-Resident Indian, Gautham Prasad, who has now apologized to the people offended by the video.

The Indian Government has been regularly banning sites which it feels are not in the best interests of the country. Popular sites like Yahoogroups and Blogger had been temporarily banned at one time in India for the same reason. YouTube too could share the same fate, albeit temporarily.

Gandhi has been having a sort of resurgence of late, in a country increasingly having a population of yuppies who are being seduced by technology and “Western Culture.” It is all quite ironic, as Gandhi, if he were alive today, would have only smiled and moved on to other more pressing matters like corruption and human rights in India.

It is an interesting sign of the times when a silly video posted on an American website can offend the world ‘s biggest democracy. It’s a small world after all.

Watch the video to find out.
