On October 17, 2005, the 40 greatest Magazine Covers of the last 40 years were unveiled at the 2005 American Magazine Conference in Puerto Rico. According to the selection committee, “…these images reflect and shape decisive moments in American society – revolutions in design, technology and landmark geo-political events.”
The magazines and their covers are quite diverse in range. Some of them feature simple white text on a black background, whereas others are pop art at its best. President Clinton, the Dixie Chicks, Playboy magazine’s first African American Model to grace the cover, Princess Diana, and Koko the Gorilla are all strange companions here. The #1 Magazine Cover is actually no surprise, and deserves the top spot.
