The Pinhole Gallery

The Pinhole Gallery is a site dedicated to collecting and displaying images taken with pinhole cameras.

At its most basic, a pinhole camera is nothing more than a box with a tiny hole. The hole projects the beam of light entering it on to film or photo paper. The cameras don’t use lenses or other expensive components, and can be easily built with stuff you have lying around your home. But, this is not a craft for the impatient, all thanks to the long exposure times (multiple seconds to days) required to capture images. But the patient are rewarded with gorgeous, ethereal images.

Amazingly, the camera can be scaled up hundreds of times in size too. The largest pinhole camera in recorded history was created using an abandoned F-18 hangar in California.

Other than the image gallery, the site provides easy-to-follow instructions for building your own pinhole cameras.
