The Unsettling Illustrations of Eric Petersen

These brilliant, but somewhat disturbing pieces are from the portfolio of Eric Petersen, an illustrator based in Olympia, Washington, U.S.A. Petersen says that his artistic style has been influenced by instructional graphics and also the look of vintage comics of the 1940s. His works mainly feature people, who are placed in stark and foreboding environments. The artist has intentionally left his works ambiguous, so as to allow the viewer to provide his or her own narrative to what their eyes and minds perceive.

On his creative process:

“I draw uniform lines on a computer to strip away some of the human element and expressive quality seen in non-digital work. I use perspective and unnatural colors to set up a voyeuristic feeling and create an unsettling mood. I am interested in the combination of a purely functional illustration style with an emotional scene.”

Illustrations Created With Movements of the Human Body

In her experimental Emptied Gestures series, New Orleans, LA-based visual artist Heather Hansen strives to interpret her dance movements onto a paper canvas by using her body as a tool. These spectacular photographs shot by Bryan Tarnowski, capture the artist from the start to the end of the creative process, where she “empties” her gestures from one form, and then moves on to give all from another.

Cat Food Tins With Beautiful Illustrations

You will surely agree that “One Love” brand’s cat food tins, adorned with ornate illustrations by Russian artists Lala Vaganova and Oksana Grivina, are some of the best looking you would have ever seen. If you pay close attention, you will notice that the felines in the illustrations have been portrayed with fur made up of their favorite foods.

The branding of the product was conceptualized by Polina Bogdanova, the head of the Arkthompson design studio in Moscow, Russia.

The Drops Series – Highly Textured Wall Sculptures by David Drumlin

Canadian artist David Drumlin’s latest series of medium-scale sculptures were recently displayed at a private viewing. Meant as a statement against our absurd glorification of material perfection in contemporary life, the sculptures harness the very tangible and emotive power of texture to great effect. It is the intention of the artist that the confrontation of these forms will make us attach meaning to their presence.

David Drumlin was born in 1977, in Canada,. He is a contemporary visual artist, who works primarily in mixed media.
