Animal Landing – A Whimsical Series of Artworks by Mr. Klevra

Gorilla-Animal-Landing-Mr.-Klevra

Animal Landing’ is a series of whimsical, but richly-symbolic artworks by Italian artist Mr. Klevra, which was recently exhibited at the Dorothy Circus Gallery, in Rome, Italy.

The artist has carefully chosen his animal subjects for their unique characteristics, or rather for what they represent to human beings. This modern day Noah’s ark of animal astronauts have landed on the moon, accompanied by things that we subconsciously associate them with in our minds. The animals have transformed the pallid grey environment of the moon into the Garden of Eden with their bright colors. They are free to adapt, to learn and to create, far away from a world of hate.

Mr.Klevra was born in Rome, where he currently lives and works. While he started out as a street artist, he is equally at ease creating art using classical painting techniques, for which he credits his completion of an art course in Byzantine iconography. A man of many artistic talents, he also recently designed this custom Mickey Mouse vinyl toy for the Disney Expo in Singapore.

Anatomical Neon – Blown Glass Sculptures of Human Organs

Heart-Jessica-Lloyd-Jones

Electric-Lungs-Jessica-Lloyd-Jones

North Wales-based artist Jessica Lloyd-Jones stunningly-beautiful blown glass sculptures of human organs were inspired by the  presence of natural electrical activity in the human body.

Blown glass human organs encapsulate inert gases displaying different colours under the influence of an electric current. The human anatomy is a complex, biological system in which energy plays a vital role. Brain Wave conveys neurological processing activity as a kinetic and sensory, physical phenomena through its display of moving electric plasma. Optic Nerve shows a similar effect, more akin to the blood vessels of the eye and with a front ‘lens’ magnifying the movement and the intensity of light. Heart is a representation of the human heart illuminated by still red neon gas. Electric Lungs is a more technically intricate structure with xenon gas spreading through its passage ways, communicating our human unawareness of the trace gases we inhale in our breathable atmosphere.

Working with financial support from UrbanGlass and Wales Arts International, Jessica collaborated with internationally renown glass artists and neon specialists to create her spellbinding works. You can visit her official site to see more of her artworks, which blur the lines between art, science and technology.

Childhood of a Circle – A Brilliant Animated Short Film

Childhood-of-a-circle

French animator Kadavre Exquis’ short film “Childhood of a Circle” is one of the most gorgeous pieces of animation I’ve watched this year. The short film tell the tale of Archibald, a lonely bear like creature whose life is suddenly changed by the arrival of a mysterious circle.

The animated film’s lush visuals, soothing background score and an evocative voiceover is a loving homage to classic European cartoons, that some of us were lucky enough to be exposed to in childhood. The OST of the film was composed by Kadavre Exquis himself, with John Kassab, the multi-award winning sound designer from Australia, taking care of sound design.

You can watch the film after the jump.
