William Powhida, the Brooklyn-based artist and art critic, just finished a drawing for the September issue of the Brooklyn Rail. Titled “The Game”, the drawing is a playable board game that is actually part satire, part scathing critique on the art world establishment.
The artist’s intense distaste (NSFW language) for Work of Art, the Bravo TV series, could have possibly had a major influence over this artwork.
Powhida seems to be controversy’s favorite child, and has built up quite a reputation for himself:
Described as a “gadfly in the art establishment” by the New York Times, “an irresistible double-dipper and ingenious double-crosser” by the Los Angeles Times and a “stupid twerp” by the editor of Artnet Online Magazine, Powhida is a mercurial personality who has been investigating new ways to survive the volatile and Janus-faced art world.

‘Heart On Stage’, an unique art project by Luiz Risi and Leena Yliportimo, combines evocative poetry with gorgeous illustrations. Though the duo are based in Amsterdam, the project is a cross-cultural collaboration, as Luiz is Brazilian, and Leena is of Finnish origin.
They have an exhibition coming up in Amsterdam, sometime in March, 2011.

We are insatiable creatures, always consuming in excess, but still hungry for more. Stephen Ong’s describes his terrific animated film as “an insight into the human machine and it's consumption…

New York-based artist William Powhida has an exhibition of his works going on at the Platform Gallery in Seattle. Also on display is his Ars Magica portfolio, “a series of New York-centric prints about the artworld that double as talismans and hexes.”
Powhida’s work has been exhibited internationally, notably at Schroeder Romero in New York and London, Charlie James Gallery in Los Angeles, and Haines Gallery in San Francisco. Holland Cotter of the New York Times has described Powhida as an “art world vigilante, virtuoso draftsman, compulsive calligrapher, and fantasist autobiographer,” and New York Magazine art critic Jerry Saltz called Powhida the second best thing to happen to New York in 2009.
You can view the thirteen prints on the gallery website here. The exhibition will be on till August 5, 2010.
