The Fantastically-Surreal Art of Rafael Silveira

robofrenteverso

It was quite a difficult task for me to pick only a few select images from Rafael Silveira’s portfolio. His paintings and illustrations are that good!

A lot of his works are phantasmagorical in nature. His acrylic and oil paintings, he says, “mixes a classical atmosphera with contemporary techniques and subjects.” And indeed, popular cartoon characters rub shoulders with pin-up-esque femme fatales, and his subjects exist in a lush, symbolically-rich world of their own.

The Art of Peatree Bojangles

Peatree-Bojangles-american-psycho

The super-awesomely named Peatree Bojangles (NSFW) is a trained artist and illustrator from London, who creates brilliant pop culture-infused digital art. Though her works look like manipulated photographs, they are actually hand-sketched photo-realistic illustrations, which she scans or photographs and then works on in Photoshop.

Peatree also maintains a blog, where she shares her unique (read edgy, but hilarious) rants and insights about surviving life on this planet of ours. She is also a must follow on Twitter.

You can buy prints of her illustrations here.

The Label Project

Sari-Widman-04

Sari Widman swears that her current project, which involves redrawing all the packaging in her house, is quite charming, and I have no choice but to agree with her. It’s also quite surreal, a bit crazy, and a whole lot of fun, too.

Snip from her site:

I was sick of looking at the utilitarian goods that cluttered my home, only to see dull and hideous packaging staring back at me with its beady little eyes. After browsing some weird and wonderful Japanese packaging, I decided to do what corporate America will not: create fun and visually interesting labels without thought to marketing, sales, or sense. Because who wants a label that’s actually relevant to the product when you can have non-sequiter and fun?
